Wondering what to write it your journal tonight? Here are a few prompts to help you along. Remember you must write at least 3/4 of a page in your Reading Comprehension Notebooks. Do this AFTER reading for 30 minutes every Monday through Thursday night. Don't forget to include why!
Happy Friday!
This week was a busy one. We began diving into both curriculums head first. In Reading class, we started Unit 1;Lesson 1 in our Florida iReady Workbooks. This is an intensive and effective curriculum that has a proven track record with other Imagine Schools. I am excited to see our students benefit from utilizing it daily. The workbooks will remain in the classroom for in class work to ensure they are available daily for all the students to benefit from. Homework going forward in Reading will be free reading for 30 minutes every Monday through Thursday night. They may choose any reading material they like for the time being. Students must complete at least 3/4 of a page journal entry in their Reading Comprehension Notebooks for each 30 minute nightly reading session. Please include the date, material read, and page numbers. In English Language Arts class we began reading our Collections curriculum. This is an interactive program including handouts, virtual close readings, and various ELA skill practices. We will be working with these texts throughout the year as a whole group and in cooperative learning groups within the classroom. Students can expect homework tied to these readings in the future. Have a fantastic and relaxing weekend. Ms. Hayes Hello Everyone,
Hope you are enjoying your first few weeks of school. We have started the week with Florida iReady Baseline Assessments on Monday and will most likely continue through to Friday. We should have the student's scoring done by the following week and at that point I will be giving each student a notecard with their reading level on it. I will instruct them to tape it to the inside of their Reading Composition Notebook. This is to help them choose books and free reading material on their level. I require all my students to do 30 minutes of free reading of their choice Monday - Thursday night. They also need to complete a 1 page reading reflection in their Reading Comprehension journal after reading. This will serve as their Reading class homework. This classroom website is a work in progress as of now, but I will be updating it every Friday and it will be a tool for staying up to date on our classwork, projects, and homework. Please send back the packet of forms you should have received at open house. If you didn't receive the packet of forms please let me know and I will send one home with your student. If you haven't joined remind 101 please do so. There is a link under the CONTACT page. It is an app - however you can use it as a text messaging system without downloading the app. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns! Ms. Hayes |
