Happy Monday!
Today the student’s took their 1st STAR Reading Assesments for the year today and we will be finishing up with a few student’s later this week. Once that is done we can start going over our scores and utilizing them as a tool to improve. We have also begun Florida Ready Workbooks UNIT 1 / Lesson 1. In addition, myself and our school technology department are working on getting the chromebooks set up for our classroom. Final Exam Review Guide for the Final on Monday May 21st.
Please Study... Florida Ready Units 3,4 & 6 study old tests and study guides archived on this blog. Students may also take home their workbooks to review. End of the year Theme Book Project
Chose a fictional novel on your reading level to read and complete the theme project on. Your reading level is on your STAR Report you are suppose to carry with you. You can also simply chose a novel by opening the book and reading a page. Chose a book that has no more than 1 word per 20 words you do not know. After choosing and independently reading a fictional novel, complete the Theme project demonstrated below. The reading of the book can be done during class time and at home. You may also work on the illustration during my class time as well. These projects will be turned in and explained to the class by the students on Thursday May 17th. Please make sure to choose a book that can be completed in this time frame. Argumentative Essays have been assigned. Students have packets to read and complete. After choosing a side based on their writing prompt, they must complete a planning sheet/map and write a draft of their essay. The completed packet, planning and essay are due Thursday for a Test Grade.
Reminder-
Finalized Planning sheets are due tomorrow 1/31/2018 from the Informative writing Packets. Completed Rough Draft Essays are Due Thursday 2/1/2018 - This will count as a quiz grade for ELA! Happy Monday!
The year is flying by and I want to bring you a brief weekly update about what we have going on in Reading and ELA. In Reading class, we are working on Unit 4; in our Florida Ready Workbooks. Please remember since so much of the reading class is done in class, the student's attendance and attention in class is crucial to do well in this class. In ELA class, we are going to be working on a unit on Informative Essay Writing in preparation for the writing FSA. 3rd Quarter Homework Projects will be explained and assigned this week as well. I will post a follow up with details after I have explained it to the students. Please remember you can stay up to date with student grades by logging into Focus (Parent Portal).
